Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Indian spiritual teacher, humanitarian, and founder (1981) of the Art of Living Foundation — one of the largest non-governmental volunteer-based educational and humanitarian movements in the world, with chapters in 180+ countries and an estimated reach of 800 million people through its courses, service projects, and Sudarshan Kriya breathing-meditation programs. Born 1956 in Tamil Nadu, Sri Sri (the honorific 'Sri Sri' meaning 'most respected') drew on the Vedic tradition and his own teachers (Sudhakar Chaturvedi, who was a contemporary of Mahatma Gandhi) to develop the rhythmic-breathing practice Sudarshan Kriya at the heart of the Art of Living courses. He has played a documented role in international peace negotiations (Colombia FARC, Sri Lankan Tamil-Sinhalese, Iraq, Kashmir), founded the International Association for Human Values, and is one of the most prolific contemporary speakers on spirituality, with thousands of recorded knowledge talks distributed worldwide.
